Beginner and Safety
Starting paddle board lessons with confidence.
Answers about beginner SUP lessons, swimming, life jackets, and first-time paddling support.
Do I need experience to join a paddle board lesson?
No experience is needed for most SUP lessons. Regular SUP lessons are beginner-friendly for both first-time and developing paddlers, and instructors adjust guidance based on each student's level. The Toronto Island route lesson requires previous experience.
Where can I book paddle board lessons near me in Toronto, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, or Montreal Verdun?
Summer paddle board lessons operate at Lake Wilcox in Richmond Hill, Downtown Toronto, Mississauga, and Montreal Verdun. Students can choose the closest launch site when booking online.
Do I need to know how to swim for a SUP lesson?
No. Life jackets are provided and worn throughout the lesson, and instructors stay on the water with students for the full session. As long as a student stays calm after falling in, they will float safely, and the instructor can assist if help is needed getting back onto the board.
Are paddle board lessons suitable for kids and families?
Yes. Paddle board lessons are suitable for both adults and children, and family bookings are welcome. Children under age 6 usually need to share a board with a parent or guardian.
What happens if the weather is not safe for paddling?
Our instructors decide whether conditions are safe for class on the day of the lesson. Light rain usually does not affect paddling, but stronger wind and lightning are the main safety concerns. If conditions are not suitable, we will arrange a reschedule. If a student chooses not to attend on their own without an instructor-led weather cancellation, the lesson is treated as a no-show.
